Installation de-fin-ing balance was created as a site-specific work for Smack Mellon in Brooklyn, New York City. While considering the unique interior architecture of Smack Mellon, this piece was inspired by the notion of structure, fragility, and balance. Made out of fabric, filled with sand, the tip of each piece is pulled away from the wall in two directions by elastic cords that anchor at the top and the bottom of two metal columns. The cords that span from the wall to the metal columns form a system of lines that serve as an architectural structure that is both restrictive and protective. This group exhibition was titled There is no synonym for hope and was co-curated by Lauren Schell Dickens and Julie McKim. |
